Set Up Your Workstation Like a Pro(flete)

Did you know that setting up your workstation correctly can greatly improve your productivity and overall well-being?

1. Begin with a chair that is adjustable and supports the curve of your spine, ensuring proper back alignment (no slouching!) – your feet should also sit firmly on the ground. If your chair has poor lumbar support, consider rolling a towel & placing on your lower back to encourage the “arch” of your lumbar spine

2. Your desk should be at the correct height so that your arms can rest comfortably parallel to the floor, preventing strain on your shoulders and wrists. Your shoulders should be relaxed when your forearms are in line (parallel) to the floor

3. Position your monitor directly in front of you, about an arm’s length away (18-24 inches), with the top of the screen slightly below eye level. This helps maintain good posture and reduces eye strain. Having to look down, or up can cause strain on your neck & cervical spine – along with contribute to feelings of fatigue

4. Place your keyboard directly in front of you, around 4-6 inches from the front of the desk, allowing your wrists to rest comfortably while typing.

5. If your feet don’t reach the floor, use a footrest to ensure your thighs are parallel to the ground

6. Opt for a well-lit space to avoid eye strain. Natural light is a bonus if available.

7. Remember to take regular screen breaks! Every 20 minutes, glance at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to ease eye fatigue and give your mind a quick break.

8. Finally, make sure to take regular breaks where you get up, stretch, and move away from your desk. This will help prevent stiffness and keep your energy levels high.

By implementing these simple adjustments into your workstation setup, you’ll be well on your way to a more comfortable, productive, and healthier workday. Share these tips with your friends and colleagues to help them too!
